Sending email from my application

Hi,

I would like to send an email with the activation link to the users from my application. I tried to configure the MxModelRefelction and EmailTemplate based on the link, https://world.mendix.com/display/howto50/Send+Custom+Emails+From+Your+App

But, the documentation seems to be outdated and I am not able to achieve what I want to. Any suggestions on how to send emails from the application? Please guide.
